Kemerovo Azot will invest in hydrogen

Kemerovo Azot intends to build new facilities totalling 6 bn RUB. This money will be spent on the construction of nitric acid and hydrogen units. The financial partner to the project is VTB. The enterprise has concluded contracts for equipment design and delivery, and for the construction of combined units with Linde AG, KBR and Step. The commissioning of facilities is scheduled for 2021.

The design capacity of a nitric acid unit is 500 tpd. It is expected to be built by KBR (USA). The general contractor for equipment delivery for chemical units will be Step (Russia, St. Petersburg). Equipment and technology for a hydrogen unit is provided by Linde AG (Germany). It will allow producing hydrogen from natural gas instead of a hydronitric mixture. The capacity of the new unit is projected at 25k ncbm/h.

Concurrently, Kemerovo Azot is set to implement the retrofit of ammonia nitrate section and install new equipment at two operating ammonia packaged unit. This will result in a 20% increase in ammonia nitrate capacity — from 1,05 m t up to 1,27 m t.

Kemerovo Azot is among top 5 companies producing nitrogen fertilisers in Russia and supplies products to Siberia and the Far East with a market share at 85%. New capacities will help the enterprise maintain its positions and market share.
